As I type this, I'm watching the World Cup. I'm such an international sports addict. I love the Olympics and World Cup and all that stuff. However, I am getting tired of hearing the outrage over the "phantom foul" in the US game yesterday. It happens. I've seen several bad calls over the course of this tournament. The US is already late to the party with soccer. It has been huge in the rest of the world for ages. To arrive on the world stage and even play semi-respectably is great, don't ruin it with whining about unfair calls.
Now, fans can whine.... that's totally what being a fan is about. (you should hear my rants on the Chiefs) But the newscasters and sports desk guys should be done with it by now. We've had alot of other games and things to discuss. I want to hear about whether Spain can comeback or if Brazil has lost its powerhouse status or how can Germany turn around yesterday's loss. Even France and Italy's lackluster play is more interesting. I just want to hear more about the other teams in the tournament. Sizing up the competiton as it were.
Enough with that, new topic.
I started reading Anthony Bourdain's new book, Medium Raw yesterday and am loving it! I know he's a really big jerk, but he also is a good writer and has a great story to tell. I also like how he's brutally honest. He's willing to say some really cruel stuff about Emeril and Bobby Flay, but also man enough to go back and admit when he's wrong. There was some slight amends making in the beginning of this book, but definitely not to Sandra Lee. (she comes off as a viper)
Time to make a fruit crisp and get ready for Father's Day with the in-laws.
